Living Heart: Flourishing in action - living the works of Mercy

During our opening school Mass all classes were presented with a flowering plant in a tea pot which is a reminder of our school and Mercy Charism.

For those who are new to the school the teacups symbolise the words of Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sister's of Mercy. She is quoted as saying, "be sure to have a comfortable cup of tea for them when I am gone".

The plant is to represent our theme for this year, Living Heart: Flourishing in action – living the works of Mercy.

During student and staff formation this year, we will explore that living the works of Mercy also calls us to look after our common home, the earth. In a letter to all people, Pope Francis too is calling for greater action to save and protect the environment.

Over the last seven weeks, these cups have been moved from inside the classroom to the prayer table and then out into the sunlight, then back inside to a window sill and then into the rain to allow them to receive the water they need.

As these cups are moved around and cared for, they are providing so much more than a symbol of our school charism. The students are learning the care that our environment requires to truly flourish.
